When your words defines quality of life!

As you read these lines, experience what happens within you “I am SO ANGRY at him” and “Ï am little upset with him”! Which one makes the emotion feel stronger! The earlier one isn’t it. When you attach strong words to emotions, you experience the same level of intensity within you. Imagine if you only choose words the way you want to feel!

Similarly, when someone asks you “how are you” you have a choice! Say, “I am okay” or “I am great”! Now which one makes you feel great when you use strong words for positive emotions! They intensify positively, and you feel the same level of emotions. When you decrease the intensity of negative words, the intensity of that negative emotions decreases too! For a moment, if we can look at ourselves the way we talk to ourselves? The choice of words and the intensity attached to it? You will realize the number of unnecessary labels to emotions affecting our quality of state of mind and thoughts!

Many people do prolonged self-talks and still do not get anywhere. There are some people who do a lot of journaling! Still the emotional state and quality of thoughts remains the same. In our life coaching sessions, we do story based or art-based self-discovery , and it’s amazing to know that there are visible blocks identified that can be addressed only my changing choice of words.

Here are 3 simple steps to change quality of thoughts and change quality of life!

Step 1: Be Aware

Once we get aware, the pathway becomes easy. When you do self-talk or write a journal, observe the choice of words and identify the intensity attached to it. See if you are over intensifying an emotion for no reason at all.

Step 2: Identify strong words and replace them

For e.g. If you want to say, “That made me very angry” you may try replacing by “That made me little upset” By doing this you are not only shifting the focus but also decreasing the negative feelings attached to it. On the contrary, instead of saying “that made me smile a little”, say “that made me laugh joyfully”! Your entire perspective changes.

Step 3: Practice!

Practice this choice of words till it becomes a habit. Identify and replace such words till it becomes intrinsic for you and you will realize these little changes can give you phenomenal results.

While it may sound very easy, but when you are consistent in your efforts, it will soon become a habit and you will experience a transformation in your emotional states, feelings, behaviors, decision making!

Remember! Your choice of words defines quality of thoughts and so as your quality of life!
